The first study for Family Focus in March is “Heart Trouble”. One of the questions is, describe how someone with a crooked heart acts? Hopefully your family can come up with a whole list of character traits of someone with a crooked heart. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about the movies and books your kids are enjoying. You could ask your kids - Can you name a movie character or a book character with a crooked heart? Talking about movie characters or book characters also lets you enter into your child or teen’s inner world in a really non-threatening way.
Some things to think about are:
- Characters with crooked hearts devise evil plans
- Characters with crooked hearts may do some good things but it is always to serve their own purposes
- Characters with crooked hearts lie, cheat, steal, gossip, bully, etc.
When my kids and I talked about this, we talked about:
- Jack Sparrow
- Voldemort
- Edmund from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
What movies are your kids watching and how can you use that as a tool to connect them with the word of God?
